Spiritual Growth

The Pathway to Spiritual Growth         God want His children to   be   the   image   of Christ but we do not grow in our faith unless we take action.          First, we are responsible for renewing our mind (Romans 12:2). Though God saves us and gives us a new spirit. He does not give us a new brain. Our minds have many trenches that have been dug or worn by rebellion, self-focus, or habit. That is why it is import ant   to meditate on the Bible, which expresses the thoughts of God. Meditation is more than reading – it involves thinking about what the words mean and then applying truth. There’s no way to grow spiritually without absorbing Scripture into our thinking.        A second step toward Christian maturity is being ready to admit and assume responsibility for failure. When we deny our sins, we delay spiritual growth, but as we learn to confess wrongdoing, ...

Butterfly or Freak?

Do you want to be a butterfly or freak? A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watch the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shrived wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that at any moment the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! Instead the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able to fly. What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required ...

Goals

Basically this hashtag, #Goals, is being used for everything under the sun they could possibly ever want. Things like: · setting deadlines · specific details on how to reach the goal · a way to measure the progress of our goals Having these big vague goals won’t bring much success to our lives. But today I’m also challenging myself with this question … God, what are the goals you want me to set for my life? There is a verse that reminds me how important it is to seek God first in everything, including goals: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” – Matthew 6:33 (NIV) So, how do we seek God’s goals for ourselves? I think it can be summarized like this:  seek, seek some more and never stop seeking. Seek Him in worship. Seek Him in prayer. Seek Him through His written Word, the Bible. I don’t know that we ever arrive at fully understanding the plans, dre...

The God First Life, Questions

What does it mean to put God first in your life? Matthew 6:33 tells us to “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness”, but how do we accomplish this when life seems to crowd out the best of intentions? Work, family, and so many other responsibilities take up every waking minute of our day. Is it possible that we are missing something? Sometimes, when something appears to be simple and straightforward, it is actually deeper and more complex than we realize at first glance. Some Bible verses are like this - Jeremiah 29:13.   Why does God want us to search for Him? He wants to strengthen us, He is preparing us for ages to come if we learn to pray, worship and walk by faith on this is of eternity. The earth is our boot camp or spring training. (Read and compare these verses Hosea 10: 12. Amos 5:4, Matthew 6:33, Jeremiah 29:13) Seek means to search, quest, find – we are to “seek the truth” and that truth is God. When we seek Him wholeheartedly – He will be fo...

God First

Everyday God speaks to us. Seeking God’s voice is challenging – there’s no special formula if you do A or B but not C – NO – the Bible give us this promise, that when we do seek Him with everything we’ve got…we will find Him! One of the greatest examples of this is a simple statement that comes directly from the mouth and heart of Jesus: But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. – Matthew 6:33. Seems simple, doesn’t it? The idea is actually very easy to understand. But living out this truth will take a lifetime! To “ seek first His kingdom and His righteousness” means to turn to God first for help, to fill our thoughts with His desires, to take His character for our pattern, and to serve and obey Him in everything. What’s really important to you? People, objects, goals, and other desires all compete for priority. Any of these can quickly become most important if we don’t actively choose to give God first ...
