Friends

Two unlikely friends!

I took this picture today of the alligator and turtle at the Viera Wetlands. I love going out there because there's almost always some great birding photo opportunities. It got me to thinking what is a friend? Dictionary.com defines friend as a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard. These two guys seem to be attached but I'm not sure it it's either of the above descriptions.

Proverbs 27:10 says do not forsake your friend and the friend of your father. Long-term friendship is precious indeed. We cannot choose our brothers and sisters, but a friend, freely chosen, can sometimes be closer than a blood relative. Many of us have relatives, even children, who live far away but often our friends or friend is nearby.

Who do you call friend? I am blessed to have several close and dear friends! Jesus called His disciples "friend." Luke 12:4, John 21:5 We are like the 5 people we hang around the most (not including) family. We need to guard our inner circle. We are the light of the world - we are to reflect God's light!

Abraham was called God's friend! Isaiah 41:8, 2 Chronicles 20:7, James 2:23

But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24b

Arise, Shine; For your light has come! Isaiah 60:1

Great Blue Herons are usually seen singly but may migrate or roost in flocks.

Advent Season

Advent Season started November 30th 2025 and ends December 24 th , 2025   Advent means the coming of Christ /period leading up to Christmas. It is the first season of the Christian Church year. On each of the four Sundays preceding Christmas, an Advent candle is lit. The 4 candles of Advent are Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace, representing the virtues Jesus brought us. The 4 candles are arranged on a circular Advent wreath, with no beginning or end, reminding us of the eternity of God's love and the everlasting love we find in Jesus.    Together the Advent candles are a reminder of God's promise to us of salvation through Christ.   The first candle purple -Hope(can be called the Prophesy Candle) symbolizes a shining light in anticipation of the coming of Christ and represents God's forgiveness of man's sins.   The second candle-Love is usually purple or violet. It reminds us of the Holy Family's experience in Bethlehem. This color is a...
