Walk in Love

Walking in Love

When we go to God as the source of all life, we receive the Holy Spirit, who authenticates our life in Christ. In Ephesians Paul begins chapter 5 with a call to imitate God. But God does something amazing with our obedience to emulate Him. When we imitate God, we grow into spiritual maturity by the power of the Holy Spirit living inside us, and we become genuine followers of Christ.

At the start of chapter 5, Paul says we are Godā€™s beloved children, and as His children, we should be imitators of God. Being an imitator isnā€™t a bad thing, as long as weā€™re imitating something thatā€™s good and pure and true. Weā€™ll never go wrong when we follow in His likeness. Thatā€™s why weā€™re here; to love God and to love others. And the way we love God and others is to become more like Christ, which is evident in how we treat others, and to give Him all the glory for all that is good. Just as Christ demonstrated His love for us by giving Himself up for us, we also should love to such a degree that we would be willing to give up our lives for the sake of another. Self-sacrifice is the truest demonstration of love.
Gratitude radically realigns our perspective with Godā€™s perspective; then the surface-allure of sin pales in comparison. Itā€™s good to be an imitator of God and walk in love and give thanks for all we have in our lives. What are some ways we, as Christ-Followers, can imitate Godā€™s love.

The Bible says God is light, and we are children of the light. When Christ lives in us, His light lives inside us as well. We canā€™t accidentally leave our light at home, either. We carry this light with us everywhere we go. This also means our ere presence could cause discomfort for someone who is actively walking in darkness. Light exposes darkness. When weā€™re walking right, our lives bear witness to the Light.

To walk in love, we must live a life of self-sacrifice, putting others ahead of ourselves. We must also live with thankful hearts. To walk in the light, we must remember that Christā€™s light lives within us, which means our conduct should be different from the conduct of nonbelievers. To walk in wisdom, we must abstain from drunkenness and instead be filled with the Spirit. We should speak to one another in psalms, singing praises to the Lord, and we should continue to give thanks for who God is and what He has already done.

Godā€™s mercy and grace are all the more magnified in light of His unimaginable power.

All That is Within Me

If you are like me and have an iPhone, you've probably spent the last couple days trying to figure out all the updates. If you have more than one Apple device, such as an iPad, you've spent even more time updating it as well. Or maybe that's on your to-do list for today (or tomorrow). It's not a quick update, it takes a fair amount of time; then once you update, you've got to reset a few things. So, that got me to thinking, have I spent the same amount of time alone with God, reading His Word, reaching out to other believers, or witnessing to the lost? I must confess, my answer would have to be "no." God loves us so much, He rejoices when we call on Him, when we reach out to Him in prayer, and when we meditate on His Word. He's so patient and so full of grace. I keep thinking back to the scripture: Deuteronomy 6:5 - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. All means completely, entirely; for ...

Good Friday

Happy Good Friday   This is the day that we remember what Jesus did for us --- enduring beating, mocking, and being crucified.   I imagine his disciples did not consider it to be a ā€œgoodā€ Friday at the time. But what makes it GOOD is what happened on Sunday --- when Jesus did the impossible and rose from the dead.    Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.  ~ 1 Peter 1:18-19 ESV   One of the best ways of celebrating Jesus and His Resurrectionā€¦is through family traditions.    Family traditions can be as simple as attending  ļø  church and having lunch or brunch together.    Jesus was a story-teller. I believe he knew the power of a story to capture hearts and bring joy while effectively delivering a specific message. He often used parables to tea...
