Memorial Day 2024

Memorial Day

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” —Joshua 1:9 NIV

Memorial Day commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. In other words, the purpose of Memorial Day is to memorialize the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.  We spend time remembering those who lost their lives and could not come home, reflecting on their service and why we have the luxury and freedom that we enjoy today. We might consider how we can support and safeguard their grieving families and loved ones who are left behind.

Memorial Day itself is about so much more than grilling recipes, corn on the cob, and delicious desserts. It's a sacred day of observance, centered on acknowledging, remembering, and thanking the millions of people in uniform who gave their lives for this country. Before anything else, it's about those brave heroes and the incredible sacrifice they made.

This Memorial Day we may also want to remember all our loved ones who are no longer physically here with us. Remembering the impact our lost loved ones had on our lives, the good times and the not so good times, the legacy they left behind and how we will choose to remember and memorialize them.

Here are a few ideas: make a list of all the fun things you did together and places you went together; light a candle(s) on a specific day and/or time of day; make a memory journal paper or digital; balloon release (don’t break the law); write a letter to the lost loved one(s), you may choose to keep it or burn it; plant a tree in their name, donate to their favorite charity or a specific cause; start a charity or a non-profit in their name. These are just a few of many ideas and suggestions.

Please share any ideas you may have and/or how you’ve chosen to memorialize your loved one(s).

The Healing Power of Memories

·         Memories are a way for us to keep our loved ones with us when they are no longer physically here.

·         Our loved ones become immortal through our story telling.

·         Sharing memories promotes healing through past experiences, giving us courage to face each day.

·         Memories connect our past with our present.

·         Memories can provide you with comfort as you navigate your ongoing grief journey.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalms 147:3

I pray that God will continue to be with you and all those you love as you continue your Journey Through this thing we call “Life.”

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26

Be blessed and be a blessing!

All That is Within Me

If you are like me and have an iPhone, you've probably spent the last couple days trying to figure out all the updates. If you have more than one Apple device, such as an iPad, you've spent even more time updating it as well. Or maybe that's on your to-do list for today (or tomorrow). It's not a quick update, it takes a fair amount of time; then once you update, you've got to reset a few things. So, that got me to thinking, have I spent the same amount of time alone with God, reading His Word, reaching out to other believers, or witnessing to the lost? I must confess, my answer would have to be "no." God loves us so much, He rejoices when we call on Him, when we reach out to Him in prayer, and when we meditate on His Word. He's so patient and so full of grace. I keep thinking back to the scripture: Deuteronomy 6:5 - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. All means completely, entirely; for ...

31 Days - Day 21

Today, I'm wondering where the time's going and what will I post?! My brain is on empty. So, what comes to mind at this time is Mandisa's song "Overcomer" which has been playing on the radio a lot lately. Jesus said in John16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Matthew Henry's Commentary on this verse: He comforts them with a promise of peace in him, by virtue of his victory over the world, whatever troubles they might meet with in it ( John 16:33 ): “ These things have I spoken, that in me you might have peace ; and if you have it not in me you will not have it at all, for in the world you shall have tribulation ; you must expect no other, and yet may cheer up yourselves, for I have overcome the world .” Observe: 1. The end Christ aimed at in preaching this farewell sermon to his disciples: That in him they might have peace . He did n...
