The Best Yes!

This week we are reading Chapters 1-3 of The Best Yes.  Go ahead and get started on that if you haven't already, and we'll be discussing that content during this week.

As you read, pay close attention any time Lysa uses God's Word, or Bible verses, in her writing. When you see a verse, stop. Read it again. Better yet, get your Bible out and look up that verse.  Possibly highlight it or write it in a notebook that is used for The Best Yes study notes. Ask God what He wants you to take away from His Word. I believe the Bible is special. And I just know that God wants us to pay close attention to it and use it in our daily lives. The Best Yes is such a great book with a great message, but I know for a fact that Lysa doesn't want us to read her words and skim over God's. Both will help us in making our Best Yes decisions in life!

If you don't have your Bible with you, download the free YouVersion  app to your phone.  I LOVE this because I have a Bible with me everywhere I go now!  I still use my real Bible, but it's great to have a small little device that has a Bible on it with me all the time. You can go their website for information or just type in "YouVersion" in the search space of your App store on your phone or tablet.

Our memory verse this week is: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow His precepts have good understanding. (Psalm 111:10 NIV)

If you aren't familiar with verse mapping, I want to share it with you today. We started using this if you were with us for the "Yes to God" study.

If you like you can unpack these 2 verses as well ā€“
  • God will make this happen, for He who calls you is faithful. 1 Thess 5:24 NLT
  • Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust in the Lord will be joyful. Proverbs 16:20 NLT

Optional Challenge

Wisdom is the ability to cope with the demands of life in healthy and constructive ways. The book of Proverbs is rich in biblical wisdom to help guide us to meet these daily demands.
The book of Proverbs is conveniently divided into thirty one chapters, the perfect amount to cover in about a month. By reading one chapter a day six to sevent days a week over the next five weeks, you can read through the entire book of Proverbs by the time we gather for our final Facebook Meet-up in The Best Yes online study.
Week 1: Proverbs 1-7
Week 2: Proverbs 8-13
Week 3: Proverbs 14-19
Week 4: Proverbs 20-25
Week 5: Proverbs 26-31
Again, this is optional, so there's no guilt, no pressure, no have-tos? In fact, use this as an opportunity to practice making you first Best Yes decision. If it's just one thing too many right now, again no pressure.

All That is Within Me

If you are like me and have an iPhone, you've probably spent the last couple days trying to figure out all the updates. If you have more than one Apple device, such as an iPad, you've spent even more time updating it as well. Or maybe that's on your to-do list for today (or tomorrow). It's not a quick update, it takes a fair amount of time; then once you update, you've got to reset a few things. So, that got me to thinking, have I spent the same amount of time alone with God, reading His Word, reaching out to other believers, or witnessing to the lost? I must confess, my answer would have to be "no." God loves us so much, He rejoices when we call on Him, when we reach out to Him in prayer, and when we meditate on His Word. He's so patient and so full of grace. I keep thinking back to the scripture: Deuteronomy 6:5 - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. All means completely, entirely; for ...

31 Days - Day 21

Today, I'm wondering where the time's going and what will I post?! My brain is on empty. So, what comes to mind at this time is Mandisa's song "Overcomer" which has been playing on the radio a lot lately. Jesus said in John16:33, ā€œI have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.ā€ Matthew Henry's Commentary on this verse: He comforts them with a promise of peace in him, by virtue of his victory over the world, whatever troubles they might meet with in it ( John 16:33 ): ā€œ These things have I spoken, that in me you might have peace ; and if you have it not in me you will not have it at all, for in the world you shall have tribulation ; you must expect no other, and yet may cheer up yourselves, for I have overcome the world .ā€ Observe: 1. The end Christ aimed at in preaching this farewell sermon to his disciples: That in him they might have peace . He did n...
