Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things [fix your minds on them]. Philippians 4:8
I came across this little book, "Positive Life Principles for Women." As I read the first chapter I was so inspired, I just wanted to share a portion of it with you today. The author asks the question, "What seems to be growing in the garden of your mind right now?" We can learn to be attentive to our thought life and the things our minds tend to dwell on. It is possible to weed out negative thing and nurture life-giving truths instead. I know – easier said than do right?
Each day, seedling thoughts are continually planted in our minds – some good and some not-so-great. A. W. Tozar said, "What we think about when we are free to think about what we will – that is what we are or will soon become." You may have heard the saying what we think about we bring about; or as the author puts it, our thoughts become our actions. The mind is a powerful tool, and we can be transformed by the renewing our minds.
What voices are you listening to? What voices direct your life? Do those voices introduce truth, or do they insinuate fear, discouragement, and doubt. Only a mind flourishing with a bountiful view of God's goodness can respond positively to all that life brings our way. We can stand on the promise of Jeremiah 29:11 … For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. God's plans are bigger than ours, even though we may not always understand because His ways are not our way but we can always trust and lean on Him through it all.
