A Banquet Fit for a King

Esther

Weekly Reading
Week 5 – Chapter 5

Read Chapter 5

Chapter 5 tells us that the king not only held out the golden scepter to save her life, he also said that he would grant anything she asked of him, even to half the kingdom (verses 2-3). She invited the king and Haman to a banquet that day. At that banquet, she told the king that she would inform him of her desire at another banquet the next day, and she again asked that Haman should be invited to hear her request (verses 7-8).

In three days, Esther fulfilled the whole purpose of God for her life. The rest of it she could just cruise and enjoy being queen. But all the preparation up to that point was for these three critical days. God brought her to the kingdom for such a time as this. These three momentous days, God was going to work. God was going to deliver His people.

Questions

With her three (3) day fast complete, how did Esther dress for her fateful appearance before King Xerxes?

Why on earth do you think Esther requested Haman’s presence?

During the wine course, how did Xerxes practically offer Esther carte blanche and for the second time (v.6 compare v. 3)?

Why do you suppose Haman might have exercised restraint?

Why do you think Haman went home and threw another party?

Why couldn’t Haman be satisfied just to have Mordecai poisoned?

The ability to persuade and the desire for peace can be wonderful elements in a woman and a blessing to her home when she’s operating in the power of the Holy Spirit.

What 3 points of application would you make for this lesson?

  1. We should not be impulsive when making important decisions
Confidence in truth and justice will always prevail over evil and malicious acts
You can never judge a person by appearances - Esther was all that he hated - but in reality loved more than hated. Thanks again.

All That is Within Me

If you are like me and have an iPhone, you've probably spent the last couple days trying to figure out all the updates. If you have more than one Apple device, such as an iPad, you've spent even more time updating it as well. Or maybe that's on your to-do list for today (or tomorrow). It's not a quick update, it takes a fair amount of time; then once you update, you've got to reset a few things. So, that got me to thinking, have I spent the same amount of time alone with God, reading His Word, reaching out to other believers, or witnessing to the lost? I must confess, my answer would have to be "no." God loves us so much, He rejoices when we call on Him, when we reach out to Him in prayer, and when we meditate on His Word. He's so patient and so full of grace. I keep thinking back to the scripture: Deuteronomy 6:5 - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. All means completely, entirely; for ...

Good Friday

Happy Good Friday   This is the day that we remember what Jesus did for us --- enduring beating, mocking, and being crucified.   I imagine his disciples did not consider it to be a “good” Friday at the time. But what makes it GOOD is what happened on Sunday --- when Jesus did the impossible and rose from the dead.    Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.  ~ 1 Peter 1:18-19 ESV   One of the best ways of celebrating Jesus and His Resurrection…is through family traditions.    Family traditions can be as simple as attending  ️  church and having lunch or brunch together.    Jesus was a story-teller. I believe he knew the power of a story to capture hearts and bring joy while effectively delivering a specific message. He often used parables to tea...
